A plain-language summary of what Weblink collects and why.
We record a page view when you visit a page, and a click when you follow a link out to another site. Each of those records the page or link, an approximate location (country and city, derived from IP address), your device type, and where you came from (search, social, another site, or directly). This aggregate traffic data drives the stats shown to admins.
We do not store your IP address. It is hashed with a private salt before it ever reaches the database, so the stored value can be used to rate-limit abuse (for example, to stop one visitor inflating a link’s click count) but cannot be reversed back into an address.
Known bots and crawlers are filtered out before anything is recorded, so this data reflects human visits.
We don’t use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
If you register, we store your display name, email address, and a securely hashed password (never the password itself). Comments, votes, and favourites are tied to your account while it exists. Deleting your account removes your favourites and votes and scrubs your profile; past comments remain visible but are reassigned to a generic “Deleted user” so the discussion around a link stays intact.
Analytics records (page views and link clicks) are kept indefinitely in aggregate to show long-term trends, but are never linked back to an individual visitor once the hashed IP is discarded from view. Account data is kept for as long as the account exists.
This is a small, self-hosted directory with no ad network and no data resale. If you have questions about your data, contact the site administrator.
